Seminar on management skills to source
financing and management of technologies by SMEs
and Workshop on Management of Change, &
Orientation for BCCI Awards for Best Manufacturing
Practices in Small and Medium Enterprises in
India, 8th May 2009, Chamber premises
The Bengal Chamber of Commerce and Industry in
association with the All India Management
Association (AIMA) and the Calcutta Management
Association (CMA) organized the seminar on
‘Management skills to source financing and
management of technologies by SMEs’. Mr. Indrajit
Sen, Co-Chairperson, Manufacturing Sub-Committee (BCCI)
highlighted the primary focus areas of the
seminar. Mr. Rajarshi Sengupta, President, CMA
focused on the need for and procedures of banks to
invest in the SME Sector, prerequisites of
information on credit rating and also the need for
addressing regulatory issues.
Dr. J. S. Juneja, Past President, AIMA & Chairman
SME Committee, was the Theme Speaker. He outlines
the objectives of the seminar and spoke about the
Indian SME sector. A comparative growth rate of
this sector and a study of AIMA on the growth
after liberalization were presented. He also
covered the issues regarding impediments to
growth. He highlighted the SME Bank Credit versus
the Gross Bank Credit by Commercial Banks. He
spoke about the revised Government strategy for
fund flows to SSIs in 2005 and enactment of MSMED
Act 2006. He focused on the contribution of the
SME sector to the country’s economy according to
the Economic Survey 2007-08. His presentation also
enlightened the delegates about the schemes
offered by the Department of Micro and Small Scale
Enterprises and Textiles of the Government. He
pointed out the emerging opportunities in the
knowledge-based sector and potential sectors for
future.
The other speakers included Mr. S. C. Rath, DGM,
SME, State Bank of India; Mr K K Sharma, Senior
Manager, NSIC; Prof Shekhar Chaudhuri, Director,
IIM, Calcutta; Mr. Rajesh Dubey, Executive
Director, ICRA Online Limited; Mr Dheeraj Dikshit,
Head SME India, HSBC; Dr. G. D. Gautama, IAS,
Principal Secretary, Department of Micro and Small
Scale Enterprises and Textiles, Government of West
Bengal.
Mr. S. C. Rath and Mr. K. K. Sharma spoke about
‘How to access finance for success, approach &
methodology - Lead Banker’s View Point’. The
session on ‘Management of Technology’ was
addressed by Prof. Shekhar Chaudhuri. Mr. Rajesh
Dubey spoke on the ‘Credit & Performance Rating of
SMEs’. Mr. Dheeraj Dikshit made a presentation on
‘Finance related to SME’. Dr. G. D. Gautama
addressed ‘ Management of Change’.
Mr. A R Baijal, Co-Chairman, Manufacturing
Sub-Committee made an introductory presentation on
the Chamber’s annual Awards for Best Manufacturing
Practices in SMEs in the Eastern Region. This
would be a competition for SMEs on their
manufacturing practices. The BCCI Panel of Expert
Judges would be reviewing each entry and the
chosen companies would make a presentation on
their manufacturing processes and practices. The
best case study presentations would be identified
and acknowledged. |
